Q: Can M1/M1 Pro hold DJI Air and Mini?
A: Yes, M1 was originally designed for the size of DJI Mavic Pro, but using dividers it's also suitable for Air and Mini. There is some extra room for Mini but you might upgrade to a bigger drone some day or put 2 drones together.
Q: Why M1/M1 Pro is the best choice in the long run?
A: Because it fits all current and future DJI Mavic/Air/Mini drones, whose sizes are not likely to change dramatically. Getting a M1 saves the money to buy a new case when you get a new Mavic drone.
