Vietnam War, original, handmade, handwoven, LARGE, HILLTRIBE, traditional rattan carrying BASKET - also called a rice basket, when seen in a smaller size. BACKPACK style. Circa 1964-65. Size: about 23" tall. Top is irregular oval shape - length about 17 1/2" and width about 15 1/2". Basket belonged to Major General John F. Freund. During
his time in South Vietnam, Freund performed duties as Deputy Senior Corps
Advisor, Director of Training for Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV),
Assistant Director of the Joint United States Public Affairs Office, Special
Assistant to the COMUSMACV General William Westmoreland, and finally
as commander of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade. Condition is used. One strap is broken. The other strap is fragile, especially where it bends near the basket. Buyer can repair/restore, as desired. Basket is handwoven - assume irregularities in the weave. See photos. NOTE: Item is very large and fragile. Size and packing material will require a very large box. This will impact shipping costs.
