The large full size pocket closes with a zipper and has a flap that covers the zipper and attaches with a hook and loop closure. There are 2 small side zipper pockets.  There is light padding in the shoulder straps and the back of the backpack.  The side pockets are accented with red canvas that is darker towards the back of the backpack and a lighter faded red toward the front of the backpack.
