It has a serrated edge on one side for chopping / sawing.  It was designed to replace the earlier generation AMES E Tool. The Gerber E-Tool is made with a serrated edge steel blade and a glass-filled nylon handle with an anodized shaft making this shovel lighter weight and durable.  Just like the earlier military entrenching tool, it folds in 3 ways to be compact and fit into a MOLLE shovel cover. These “folding shovels” were primarily used to dig defensive positions like foxholes and trenches. Compact yet reliable tri-fold shovel for camping, survival, car trunk, bugout tool...... Today E-Tools have become an indispensable part of every outdoorsman or prepper’s kit. This device is not only good for digging holes and clearing out campsites; you can also use them in a number of ways. Many years of serviceable use remaining with normal care. Very Good used condition shows minimal signs of wear. Paint may show some minor scratches or chipping. May have very light rust on areas where paint is missing. Edge is in very good condition. Hinges and locking mechanism in very good condition. Cover has minimal to no fading and no writing or holes. Cover buttons, snaps, buckles, clips, straps are in very good condition. Excellent used condition shows hardly any signs of wear. Paint is in excellent condition, very light to no scratches, chips, or rust. Edge is in excellent condition. Hinges and locking mechanism in excellent condition. Cover has very good bright crisp color and no writing or holes. Cover buttons, snaps, buckles, clips, straps are in excellent condition. New or New never issued are either brand new with tags and / or packaging or in the case of never issued, they may not have tags or packaging and may have some dust or signs of storage / handling but show no signs of ever having been issued or used.
